Somehow The Lion-Hearted Failed To Win

Mackage "Doreen" Coat, American Apparel 3D Mesh Jumper, Nixon "Time Teller" Watch, Urban Planet Jeans, Frye Engineer 12R Boots.

Just realized that I never got to share my baby with you guys. My parents bought me this Mackage coat for my 21st birthday and there are not enough words in the English language (or at least, enough that I know) to express my love of this coat. It's heavy, beautiful and dramatic - not mention that when I'm wearing it, I feel like a Russian princess. It's so ~fancy~ that I accidentally call it a dress half the time instead of a coat.

Anyways, that's the end of my ode to this wool coat. I have to say however that it's really emphasized to me the importance of great outerwear, and how amazing having a beautiful coat can make you look and feel on a regular basis. I therefore deem 2012 the year of outerwear investments (on the to buy list: leather jacket, down filled parka, rain jacket, trench.)

We'll see how that goes. Y'all will be the first to know!

"Those Are Some Cool Galaxy Pants."

American Apparel Circle Scarf and Fisherman Knit Sweater, H&M Sheer Button-up, Guess Coat, Black Milk Leggings, Cambridge Satchel Co. Satchel, Frye Engineer 12R Boots

Yesterday, I finally received my galaxy leggings in the mail from Black Milk. I love them, but they make me feel like a fifteen year old who hopped out of the Skins cast or something... I haven't decided if it's a good thing or not. In addition, I've always been a steadfast advocate of the belief that leggings are not pants but these have me **questioning everything** - mostly because they're so loud that they're impossible to style as tights. The excessive amount of stares and side-eye I got today while wearing these wasn't helping matters either.

tl;dr version: I'm in a very conflicting love affair with my "galaxy pants" (as one girl referred to them today.)

In other news, a fashion publication at my school called Muse Magazine printed a short piece on my little corner of the web. (Read here, page 35.) To the geniuses at Muse, thank you for actually taking the time to write about my abandoned dumpster baby of a fashion blog. It's much appreciated.

P.S. This music video is making my life.

Eat That Up, It's Good For You.

Aritzia (Wilfred) sweater, vintage Coach "Willis" satchel, Nixon watch, thrifted shirt, American Apparel leggings, Kodiak socks and Frye boots.

Photography Credit: Philippe Dorman (flickr/blog/twitter)

This outfit is what rainy days and feeling under the weather in Kingston will do to a girl. I'm dubbing this my "hobo student life" look - looking slightly dishevelled, being way too comfortable, and wearing a fair amount of Queen's girl staples. See Kodiak socks, plaid shirt, AA shiny leggings and the ubiquitous Wilfred cocoon sweater (what can I say, I'm a product of my environment.)

Anyways, it's Thanksgiving weekend and I'm currently spending the weekend at home with my family. Went shopping yesterday (it's apparently impossible for me to be in Toronto without doing so) and got to check out some new imports to Canada, including J. Crew and Topshop. Ended up with some buys from Aritzia, Topshop and H&M - some basic long sleeves, a cute trapeeze-type top with lace panels and a pair of... faux leather paperbag shorts? Haha. Also fell in love with these Weatherby rainboots from J.Crew. My wishlists are seriously getting out of control. #firstworldproblems

Anyways, I should probably be studying for my abnormal psych exam rather than blogging so I'm out of here. Hope all my Canadians have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!

They Stare At Me While I Crave You

American Apparel dress & clutch, BCBGeneration sweater, ASOS ring and earrings, Frye boots.

I'm not the thinnest girl, but fuck it. Wear what you want to wear, dress how you want to dress. And apologize for nothing. Because honestly, at the end of the day the only person you're hurting is you.

...Also, I should probably make an effort to not look like I'm trying to kill anyone in my line of sight with my eyes alone. I'll try harder next time.

Somewhere Only We Know

Some of my favourite recent buys:

1) Madewell necklace. My favourite detail has to the the lobster clasp shaped like a lifeboat preserver.
2) These MBMJ flats are the love of my life. They make every outfit that much classier.
3) If I'm not wearing my MBMJ flats, I'm wearing my TOMS. I haven't even owned them for two weeks but they are oh-so-comfy, and surprisingly versatile.
4) I have been wanting this perfume forever but I couldn't justify the 130 CAD pricetag. God bless duty-free.
5) I seriously own NO shorts. These were on sale at H&M and although I've only owned them for about 48 hours, I've worn both pairs out already. A good buy, methinks.
6) Bought this American Apparel clutch for myself as a present for finishing 3rd year; it's probably my favourite buy over the last couple months. Since I can't afford the Celine version it's inspired by, I bought the next best (and affordable) thing. The leather quality is great for the price and the clutch is simple enough that it works with pretty much any outfit. I'm kind of in love.
7) 10 CAD at Black Market. Thrifting is awesome.
8) Ditto.

I may have gone a little first (and second) paycheque crazy. Time to reel it in and start properly saving for the school year. Oh joy.

P.S. My friend is currently backpacking though Europe, and blogging about it on the way. For anyone suffering from a major case of wanderlust, click here.

They Say, "Be Afraid." You're Not Like The Others, Futuristic Lover.

Lola's Room blazer, Bongo jeans, Frye boots, American Apparel scarf, "Karl" tee from Kensignton Market.

I wore my hair in the Lady Gaga hair bow! Surprisingly easy thanks to this tutorial. Truthfully, half the reason I did this hairstyle was just to see if I could pull it off, the other half was that I wanted to see people's reactions. To be honest, not as much shock and outrage as I had hoped for. (I'll try harder next time.)

Started using tag.loudly and I'm loving the ability to tag my photos as well as the awesome image quality. Also, considering changing the blog layout. I don't feel it's a good fit for my personality but since I have little to no grasp of HTML/CSS, I'm stuck for now. Now adding "Learn How to Use Dreamweaver" to my impossibly long list of summer to-dos.

P.S. Thanks to Vess for taking these.

I Believe That Life Is a Prize, But To Live Doesn't Mean You're Alive.

First order of business: Leandra Medine is my goddess and The Man Repeller my bible. I dedicate this post to her.

Aritzia sweater, Bongo jeans, American Apparel tank, Forever XXI scarf, scarletbegonia11 @ Etsy necklace, Asos earrings & ring.

Although I will never be as proficient in repulsing the male species through my fashion choices as The Man Repeller, I chose three key "man-repelling" elements to incorporate into today's outfit:
Mehhhhhh, needs more: animal prints / socks-with-sandals / fur / feathers / turbans / drop-crotch pants / clothing that looks like vaginas (and other de-sexifying accessories.)

Also, I have decided to take up crochet & knitting - the perfect hobbies to accompany me when I graduate from man-repeller to spinster. After all, isn't that where this is all going?

I Like My Beats Loud, And My Bass Down Low.

American Apparel dress, Aritzia sweater, Hue tights, Forever XXI necklace.

I think this is an outfit very befitting of a Canadian girl in the midst of winter. The only clothing craving I have experienced this winter was for a warm, thick, knitted sweater - the kind that you imagine wearing at the cabin, sitting by the fire and drinking hot cocoa. (This sweater totally fulfilled that longing.)

I love buying something and being completely obsessed with it - for me, this is always the mark of a good purchase. Nothing frees me from the guilt of buying an expensive item more than getting a ridiculous amount of use out of that piece - at least it was money well spent, right?

I'm going to use 2011 to completely overhaul my closet. It's full of cheap shit that I don't even like - getting dressed in the morning is a pain in the ass. I'm getting to the point in my life where I'd much rather have a closet a third of the size of my current closet, filled with well made things that I love, than my current closet (filled with shit that I'm rather apathetic towards.) Anyone else feel that way?

For The Love of Karl

American Eagle shirt, American Apparel skirt, Hue tights, Asos "Claw" ring, "Karl" tank from Kensington Market, Cross Ring & Ear Cuff from eBay.

Super quick post before I run off to Lab. It's the last day of class this semester -- I'm super excited for exams to be over and for next semester to begin. I should probably be excited for Christmas, but if we're really being honest: I don't give a shit. I'm just happy I can listen to "Carol of the Bells" without being teased.

Also, the ear cuff above is my favourite new addition to my jewelry collection. Got it three days ago and I think this might be true love.

Do It Like A Brother, Do It Like A Dude.

H&M waistcoat, Garage dress, American Apparel lace shirt, lulumumu @ Etsy necklace, Urban Outfitters gloves.

Not going to lie, this outfit is basically a day version of the one worn in this post not too long ago (aka this weekend, lol.) It's inspired by Jessie J's new song "Do It Like A Dude" which is underneath these photos. Most powerful voice I have heard from an artist in a while. If you want to feel uplifted, look up her song "Who You Are". Few people can make those lyrics work without seeming cheesy but Jessie J is certainly one of those people.

The Quiet Scares Me 'Cause It Screams The Truth.

A couple outfits from the past few days:

American Apparel dress, H&M necklace, Ardene's cardigan, Hue tights.

Forever 21 rings, Garage dress, American Apparel lace bodysuit.

So really shitty news: my camera no longer works, and I am too poor to buy a new one. Which leaves me at a loss for how to keep this blog going. For now, I'm just going to take outfit pictures on Photobooth until I can find a better solution.

I know everything that could possibly be said about the H&M x Lanvin collection has been said, so I'll keep this short. I was one of those bloggers who were jizzing their pants over the prospect of this collection - but on the models, the collection was rather underwhelming. After going and looking at the collection online however, I'm particularly loving the yellow one-shouldered dress and cream skirt pictured above. Although seeing as how I won't even be in Toronto when the collection debuts there is a fat chance of me ever getting my hands either.

A Captain of Love, Sailing The High Seas of Life.

A lil' Halloween picspam:

American Apparel sheer dress, Banana Republic ring, lulumumu @ Etsy necklace, thrifted blazer.

A relatively tame Halloween, all things considered - but still a good time. Had friends dress up as a Girl Scout, a zombie and a vampire slayer. They look fab, no? In case you didn't already guess, I was a Naval officer.

My favourite part of my outfit had to be the "Love Compass" necklace which I got off lulumumu on Etsy. Because romance isn't easy, and sometimes we all need a little help to point us in the right direction.

A couple of .gifs to finish this post off (because I have far too much time on my hands, aka procrastination is an art for me.)

Please note how my Blackberry lights up in the second gif, lol.

Happy Halloween everyone! Hope you all had a fantastic night.

P.S. School and midterms have stolen my soul, but I promise to make an effort for things to get back to normal around here soon.
