Om Nom Nom: George Foreman Edition

So Darcy received this gorgeous George Foreman grill for Christmas, but due to... unforseen circumstances we were unable to access the grill until about a week ago.

We saw it, and pretty much jizzed in our pants.
So what do you do when you have a brand spanking new George Foreman?

Make quesadillas, obviously! (Especially when that grill comes with special quesadilla plates.)

Starting Materials.

Chef Darcy hard at work.

The result. Looks fab, no?

Darcy in the first stages of devouring her meal.

Perfect compliment to this meal.

Freshly Squeezed

So during Reading Week, I decided to do something I have always wanted to do but have simply been too lazy to do: make my own freshly squeezed OJ.

(Ya, I know you were hoping for something more epic, sorry for the letdown.)

The starting materials.

Freshly sliced orange, mmmmm.

Squeezin' orange halves with the juicer.

Wrecked orange half.

What I got after juicing (there was definitely a "WTF" moment here. Because that is not a lot of juice.)

Juice after straining. (The orange juice in the white bowl looks almost like an egg yolk, no?)

The final product (take note of the wreckage in the background.)

It was so worth it though, the juice was amazing.

Insanity Wolf says...

My fabulous housemate Brianne posted this beautiful photo:

To which I reply:

Of course, I've just become addicted to tumblr. So who's really laughing now?

Outfit [2010.02.23]

An outfit I wore recently when travelling to go home for Reading Week. Comfy and cute, but still chic.

H&M hat. Kensie girl Sweater/Dress. Forever 21 top. American Apparel braided belt & leggings.

*Apologies for the shitty quality of the photos. My camera has a hard time understanding the self-timer concept =(

Om Nom Nom: Apple Crisp Edition

I'm sure you've come to realize that anytime I'm bored, I bake.
This time, it was apple crisp.

Choppin' up them apples.

First layer of crisp... was supposed to be crumble, came out more like dough.

Full unbaked apple crisp.

Fresh out of the oven, smelled amazing.

It was damn good, and it better have been... it only took like 10 million hours to cut up all that apple.

Received something special in the mail today:

I'm now a registered voter, yay!

People often say that, in a democracy, decisions are made by a majority of the people.  Of course, that is not true.  Decisions are made by a majority of those who make themselves heard and who vote - a very different thing.  ~Walter H. Judd

I know you want pop, you want dance, you want rock and roll. You wanted boom boom? This year’s remix got symphonic soul.

Some songs I've been loving lately:

Ida Maria - See Me Through

I'd listened to "Oh My God," but other than that I'd never heard much of her music. Grabbed the album off of Bri, and this track stood out immediately.

Example - When The Sun Comes Up

Love to listen to this one in the morning when I'm getting ready or when I'm walking to school. Yes, I'm a nerd, because it's really about losing love - not early mornings.

Ja Rule - Down 4 U

Random, right? I was watching this movie "Fish Tank" (It's really good) and there's one scene where this song is playing on the TV and the main character is dancing along. It's been stuck in my head since. I really loved this song when it came out.

SNSD - Gee

I honestly don't listen to k-pop (seeing as how I don't understand Korean and all) but this song is ridiculously addictive. And I love it.

Florence + the Machine - My Boy Builds Coffins

Still discovering the amazing-ness that is the album "Lungs" by Florence + the Machine*. This song is gorgeous, I love it so much.

Major Lazer - Keep It Goin' Louder

My Lazer obsession hasn't waned. I love this song, it feels more soca-inspired than the rest of the album and gets me ready to have a good night =)

DJ Earworm - United States of Pop 2009

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. This mix fills me with happy butterflies. All the songs in this mix take me back to good times, and it's a really well done mash-up.

*In case you didn't guess, she's the inspiration for my blog's name.

Shopping Takes the Pain Away

So I bought myself some new things, after a bad couple of days. (To be honest, I've had worse, I just like having excuses to make myself feel better.)

Had a Organic Chem lab on Wednesday in which I got no product. Then about an hour later I wrote one of the hardest midterms I've had all year. (But apparently not everyone thought it was bad, which kind of makes things even worse - I'm alone in my suffering! What can I say, misery loves conpany.) And I just got home for Reading Week only for my friends to be locked up studying or going home because their Reading Week is ending. Sadness.

Fake Pearl Necklace from H&M, which I really only bought because I wanted to take photos:

The last one is for Darcy: "clutchin' ma pearls!"

Also, Darcy and I had a very long discussion about blazers and how we could both be missing such staple pieces. Today I went on a blazer hunt and I found a few that I liked, but I'm kind of on a strict budget. So I ended up getting this boyfriend blazer from a little boutique in the town where I go to school:

Also, got a little TNA toque from Aritzia. I feel that Boots and Darcy will judge me, seeing as how it has "tnatnatna" written all over it, but I have a sick weakness for hats. Just look at how cute it is!

God bless Canadian winters for indulging me and my love of touques.

P.S. Joke of the night:

I am in love with this one campaign featuring Yulia Kharlapova for Moschino; I have it everywhere. Including as my computer background.

Mom, strolling by.
Mom: Who are all those people in those graduation photos?
Laughs to self, walks away.

Oh mother. Never change.

Outfit [2010.02.13]

Just realized, never posted my Valentine's outfit. Wore this to an event called "Vuck Falentine's" the Saturday night before Valentine's.

H&M Sweater Vest. American Apparel Leggings & Belt. Aldo Booties.

And for shits & giggles:

Darcy as my minion. I must say she's pretty decent.

Vuck Falentine's

Yes, I'm a bit late on the Valentine's update post. I'm in the middle of midterms right now, although temporary relief will soon arrive in the form of Reading Week. Joy!

Anyways, the most important part... My housemate Brianne & I got down to baking for Valentine's:

In the process of creating some fabulous baked goods.

Decorations!

Heart cake =) Made two of these to get the fabulous double-layered cake in the photo below.

Christened by Bri as "the tackiest cake ever."

Initial cupcakes!

Sugar cookies, om nom nom.

Initial cupcakes AND sugar cookies. Doesn't get better than that, does it?

Let it be known, neither Bri or I are particularly Valentine's people. But Boots loves it, and we thought we'd surprise her with baked goods in response to the fabulous valentines she left on all our doors last week.

Also, a friend came over and made us dinner later, it was delicious. Sadly, I don't have any pictures of that.

Also went out to a student event termed "Vuck Falentine's" Saturday night, hence the name of this post. Quick peek:

Darcy is precious, no?

Anyways, hope everyone had a great Valentine's!

Om Nom Nom

I made a fabulous spicy veggie soup.
IT WAS AWESOME.

Also, joke of the night:

Boots: "Don't you think he's what every gay guy is looking for?"
Darcy: "A bottom?"

I died.

Tear, Dear.

Oh men, look at how hard they have it in life. The way they're just discrimnated against and nagged at all the time. IT'S UNBEARABLE. Men need to take a stand, right? Well, the fine folks at Dodge seem to think so:

Riiight.

These girls did it better:

The ending to that was amazing, lol.

Current Status: Obsessed

So I love Rude Boy, the 3rd song off Rihanna's new album, Rated R. And the video did not disappoint:

Loving the dancehall influence written all over this video, makes sense considering the name.

Also in love with Major Lazer. Although I'm West Indian (in background, wasn't born there), I honestly listen to very little to no West Indian music (dancehall, soca, reggae etc.). It's kind of sad I needed a Western segueway into dancehall, but good music is good music, right?

My favourite off the album:

Enjoy.

I Heart You

Valentine's Day is near, and in honour, Boots made us all (myself, Darcy & Bri) valentines.

Boots is tres cute, love her. She also has a fab sense of style:

Ready for more? You should be. You can check out more of her style at theycalledmeboots.blogspot.com

I bought Darcy a tickling plant for Christmas:

It's the cutest thing ever. When you touch it, it moves, and we've all been having way too much fun for our own good.

Darcy and I were supposed to make our own shredded DIY tees in the summer, but never got around to it... until now. At least she did:

Looks fab, yes? You can check out more at mrdarcyscravat.blogspot.com

And now that she's started hers, she inspired me to start work on mine. It's far from done. But you'll be the first to see when I finish.

P.S. Just found out about Alexander McQueen, RIP.

Outfit [2010.02.10]

Zara t-shirt. Makers of True Originals Jeans. Hot Topic suspenders. Ardene's hat.

This hat is my favourite. And I came home on Christmas break only to see that my sister has the exact same one. What can I say? She has good taste.
